Paper places

Luxe paper & tiles

When I first came to Melbourne, 6 years ago there seemed to be a papered powder room epidemic...nowhere else in the house, just the powder room. Its nice to see wallpaper has emerged from the smallest room in the house and is gracing entire walls! I love the choices here, especially the living room...the bathroom is tiled but couldn't resist including!

If you are thinking paper.... Melbourne has a great array of wallpaper specialists & suppliers. Most papers come from overseas(3-6wks wait) and the average price is apprx $120-$150 p/10mtre roll, depending on the paper & design house. If you have an 'economical' budget start at your local paint shop, you might be surprised at the range of books Mr Dulux has to offer. Heritage Paints at Balwyn have a sensational range for all tastes and budgets plus the staff are very helpful..as does Port Melbourne Paint & Paper.

All wholesale fabric houses will have a wallpaper range, you are welcome to look but will need a designer to order for you.

Montobello Styling

Classic black, charcoal & white trim

white on white & neutrals

striking print for a warm welcome

neutrals & spice

my favourite mix of colours, pattern & texture

The girls at Montobello Emporium have created another fresh & fragrant home using a heady mix of fabrics and patterns. Neutrals come to life with a spicy collection of ethnic patterns, florals, liberty style prints and a touch of wildlife.

I love their shop on Whitehorse rd, Balwyn...the antique armchairs covered in Kathryn Ireland fabrics, sourced through Tigger Hall, Armadale are especially fab...more on Tigger's fabric range later!

Saturday at Salamanca

A weekend in sunny Hobart ferrying up the Derwent river to visit the amazing MONA which is, without doubt one of the best Galleries/Museums in any hemisphere. Confrontational + sensational and reminds you that art is anything but wallpaper.....however back to Salamanca and the lovely Ruby Victoria. I spied this stall on Saturday morning and couldn't drag myself away. Ruby Victoria letterpress & printmaking is a home based printing studio run by Narelle Badalassi specialising in linocut and letterpress printing. Gorgeous bunting for festive occassions or just because...cards, handmade brooches, bookmarks and botanical style bird illustrations. Find her at rubyvictoria.tumblr.com or at the Salamanca Markets on a Saturday, go early(8.30-9am) to beat the crowds and then hot foot it to the ferry for a visit to MONA. Best to book the ferry in advance as its popular and you will need about 3 hours at the gallery..lunch is an important part of the experience! Very laid back, as they have big comfy cushions for reclining on the grassy slopes beside the Derwent.
